IIT-DELHI develops Device that decontaminates N-95 Masks

IIT-Delhi graduates have developed a unique device that decontaminates N-95 and other daily essential items used by Delhi Police.

The device is called ‘Chakr DeCoV’ by Chakra Innovation (a startup from IIT Delhi), which will enable the use of N-95 masks upto 10 times and the process if of 90 minutes using ozone-based decontamination.
This device has been approved by ICMR-NIV and was launched on 10th June 2020 via video conferencing.

“Proper dosage and exposure of Ozone can result in inactivation of SARS CoV-2 and a 99.9999% reduction in bacterial load, after which an N-95 mask can be re-used for up to 10 times without any impact on the filtration efficiency,” said Tushar Batham, vice-president engineering, under whose supervision the device has been developed.

It’ll be installed at the entrance of Delhi headquarter and if found effective, it’ll be installed at other police stations.
Each unit is expected to cost around 7000rs.
